The Netball NT Youth Advisory Group (YAG) gives young people the opportunity to share their experiences, contribute ideas, and help shape the future of netball across the Northern Territory. 

The YAG is part of the Nurturing Netball Leaders (NNL) project, delivered in partnership with INPEX, which supports the development of the next generation of players, coaches, umpires, administrators, and leaders within Territory netball. 

Bringing together young people from across the Territory, the YAG provides a direct connection between young members of our netball community and Netball NT. Members share their perspectives, discuss opportunities and challenges for young people in the game, and contribute ideas to help inform programs, projects, and the future direction of netball in the NT. 

The YAG also gives members the opportunity to develop their confidence and build practical skills in leadership, communication, collaboration, decision-making, and problem-solving.

Self-Nominations 
Nominations for the 2027 Netball NT Youth Advisory Group (YAG) will open on 17 October, giving young people aged 14–19 from across the Northern Territory the opportunity to have a voice in the future of netball in the NT.

We’re looking for young people born between 2008 and 2013 who want to share their experiences, contribute ideas, connect with others, and help shape initiatives that support young people across our netball community.

There are many ways to be part of netball, and we want YAG to reflect that. Whether you play at school or with your local club or association, umpire local games, coach a junior team, or compete at representative level, we want to hear your ideas, experiences, and perspectives on netball in the Territory.

The YAG provides a space for young people to talk about what matters to them and contribute their perspectives to Netball NT. 

Members have the opportunity to: 

// Connect with other young people involved in netball from across the NT. 
// Discuss opportunities and challenges affecting young people in netball 
// Learn from leaders in netball who have transitioned from playing, coaching, umpiring or administering into other roles. 
// Share their ideas and experiences of netball in the Northern Territory 
// Provide a youth perspective on Netball NT programs, projects, and initiatives 
// Identify ways to improve the experience of young people within our game 
// Contribute to discussions about participation, development, and the future of Territory netball 
The 2027 Youth Advisory Group will run from March to November 2027, with members meeting once a month on Sunday afternoons. 

Meetings are held online via Microsoft Teams and run for approximately 90 minutes, making it possible for young people from across the Northern Territory to participate. 

Each meeting gives members the opportunity to share ideas, discuss issues and opportunities, hear from guest speakers, and work together towards completing a project for the Territory netball community. 

YAG meetings also provide opportunities to hear from people who have built careers and experiences across different areas of netball. 

The 2025/26 YAG heard from special guests including former Netball Australia Chief Executive Officer Stacey West and former Australian Diamond Laura Scherian, giving members the opportunity to hear about their experiences, ask questions, and learn from people who have reached the highest levels of the sport. 
Being part of the Youth Advisory Group is an opportunity to have your voice heard while building skills and experiences that can be valuable both within and beyond netball. 

YAG members have the opportunity to develop their: 

// Leadership and confidence 
// Communication and collaboration skills 
// Decision-making and problem-solving skills 
// Project planning and teamwork experience 
// Understanding of how sporting organisations work 
// Connections with other young people involved in netball across the Territory. 

Most importantly, members can contribute their own ideas and experiences and help Netball NT better understand what is important to young people in our game.

Meet the 2025/26 Youth Advisory Group 

Established in 2025, Netball NT’s inaugural Youth Advisory Group brought together nine young people from Darwin, Palmerston, Katherine, and Alice Springs. 

The group includes young people with different experiences across the game, bringing their perspectives and ideas together to help shape the YAG and establish a strong foundation for future groups.
