The 2022 Sitzler Indigenous Netball Carnival welcomed 24 teams to their 3-day event that was held on the 20-21-22nd May 2022.
The annual Indigenous Netball Carnival is one of the most important events in the NNT calendar, established to increase the participation of the Indigenous community in sport and recreation and to promote a healthy lifestyle in a fun and competitive way.
"With players coming from as far as Kununurra, Wyndham, Alice Springs and Katherine it was exciting to see the celebration of the carnival in such an expansive nature. " NNT Marketing Specialist, Prerak Shah stated.
The twenty-four teams were spread across six divisions this year,13 & U, 15's & Under, 17's & Under Women’s - Open, Men’s – Open, and Mixed.
The 15/U category proved to be highly competitive, with 4 teams competing in the round-robin matches and the grand final finishing with a nail biting victory for Us Mob Minis .
The No-More Campaign which is an Aboriginal initiative addressing prevention of Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) through a whole of community approach sponsored the NO-MORE SPIRIT AWARD to players that showed exceptional sportsmanship, respect and good beahviour during the carnival.
NNT hopes to see more teams attend next year’s carnival, with dates for 2023 yet to be set as they await the outcome of the Event Review.
