Netball Northern Territory was privileged to send four young women to the Diamond Spirit Indigenous Leadership Camp in Queensland.
Two players from Darwin, Brooke Shields and Danielle Norris, and two players from Alice Springs, Kyanne Priestley and Jodie-Rose Pon, spent the last weekend of May attending the camp which encompasses a range of fields inclusive of health and wellbeing, education, social and emotional wellbeing and spiritual support to build strong women.
The camp is part of Netball Queensland's Diamond Spirit program, a holistic community engagement programme, which uses netball as a vehicle to engage, empower and educate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls in remote and regional communities across Queensland.
Over the course of the weekend, the attendees participated in a number of physical activities ranging from rock climbing to on-court games with the Queensland Firebirds, they were also given the opportunity to explore their future pathways at the University of Queensland and partake in leadership activities.
In what can only be described as a fulfilling weekend for the NT women it is hoped that the Northern Territory community will be invited to participate again in 2022.
