The Board of Netball NT is pleased to announce the appointment of Debra Farrelly as the organisation’s new Chief Executive Officer. With over 30 years of leadership experience in the education sector, more than two decades of living in the Territory, and a lifelong involvement in netball, Debra truly embodies what it means to be “Made in Netball.”
Debra’s career includes senior executive roles in Australian universities across Student Administration and Corporate Services, where she led large teams through significant operational and cultural change. Her expertise in leadership, organisational capability, and service excellence will support Netball NT as it strengthens its pathways, partnerships, and performance across the Territory.
As a consultant, Debra has worked with organisations to enhance team and individual performance through conflict management, coaching, and leadership development. She brings a calm, consultative style and a deep understanding of complex organisational environments. Debra holds postgraduate qualifications in Education, Business Administration, and Conflict Management and Resolution, and is nationally accredited as both a mediator and conflict coach.
“Debra’s blend of Territory insight, professional leadership experience, and genuine passion for our sport makes her an exceptional appointment,” said Catherine Sansom, Chair of Netball NT. “She is Made in Netball—her values, her approach to people, and her commitment to doing the simple things well all reflect the strengths of our netball community.”
Debra’s contribution to netball spans decades. She began as a player, moved into elite-level umpiring, and has since become a respected mentor, educator, and high-performance talent developer. In the last two years, she delivered national workshops and online programs for sporting officials focused on managing conflict under pressure, further strengthening capability within the officiating pathway.
“I am honoured to lead Netball NT,” Debra said. “Netball has shaped who I am—personally and professionally—and I’m excited to work with our Board, staff, associations, clubs, players, coaches, officials, and volunteers to grow the game and support our people to thrive.”
Debra is passionate about helping people do the simple things well and is committed to continuous improvement—empowering teams to deliver high-quality services with confidence and clarity.
Debra will commence as Chief Executive Officer of Netball NT in late January 2026.
