NNT Indigenous Academy
Following the introduction of the Netball NT Indigenous Academy in Darwin in 2023, we are proud to announce the continued delivery of this program with the exciting addition of Academy programs in Alice Springs and Katherine.
BACKGROUND
The program was established to provide local First Nations athletes an opportunity to continue developing their netball skills within an environment where cultural considerations are prioritised. The Indigenous Netball Academy also plays an important role in the Netball NT and Netball Australia athlete development pathway, with a focus on providing accelerated equitable First Nations pathway opportunities.
Aim of the NNT Indigenous Netball Academy
- To provide a culturally centred and safe environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander netball participants to connect as First Nations women and girls.
- Deliver a program that contributes to preparing First Nations coaches and administrators to be involved in netball’s pathway systems.
- Cultivate peripheral cultural engagement opportunities and activities
- Deliver best practice training program based on the Netball Australia core curriculum of skills
- Develop a pathway and prepare athletes for entry into Netball NT representative pathways
