A few weeks ago Netball NT joined forces with NTIS to deliver two multi-sport holiday clinics to Tennant Creek and Alice Springs.
Netball NT's Participation Officer, Hayley Ross, teamed up with six coaches from an array of sport disciplines inclusive of AFL and Basketball, with the aim of introducing children to a number of different sports.
"We begin the clinics with a run-through of the basics which includes a number of passing and ball handling drills. This gives the children an insight into how the sport functions and allows us to move on to the next step by way of a 'modified rules' game." stated Ross.
Alice Springs had a total of 21 participants attend over the two days, whilst Tennant Creek had a slower start to their clinics due to Sorry Business.
"It is extremely important to us that any cultural ceremonies are respected in communities like Tennant Creek where there is a high percentage of Indigenous people, we enter these communities knowing that on occasion we may have a minor set-back." Said Ross.
With a number of children expressing their enjoyment to the officers on the day, it was evident that the variety of sports presented to the children was fulfilling.
Netball NT hopes to participate in more multi-sport holiday clinics in the near future.
